Fuji, Shizuoka

Fuji (富士市 Fuji-shi?) is a metropolis inwards eastern Shizuoka Prefecture. Fuji is the tertiary largest metropolis inwards damage of population inwards Shizuoka Prefecture, trailing Hamamatsu together with Shizuoka. As of Feb 2010, the metropolis has an estimated population of 254,113 together with a population density of 1040 persons per km². The full expanse is 245.02 km².

History
In the Edo period, the Tōkaidō passed through the expanse that is directly Fuji, amongst a postal service station at Yoshiwara-juku. During the Edo period, the expanse was by together with large tenryō territory nether straight command of the Tokugawa shogunate. During the cadastral reform of the early on Meiji menses inwards 1889, the expanse was reorganized into the town of Yoshiwara (吉原町) together with the villages of Shimada (島田村) Denbō (伝法村), Imaizumi (今泉村), Motoyoshiwara (元吉原村), Sudo (須津村), Yoshinaga (吉永村), Harada (原田村), Ōbuchi (大淵村), Kajima (加島村), Tagoura (田子浦村), Iwamatsu (岩松村), together with Takaoka (鷹岡村) inside Fuji District.

Kajima became the town of Fuji on August 1, 1929. Neighboring Takaoka was elevated to town condition on Jan 1, 1933. Shimada merged into Yoshiwara inwards 1940, Denbō inwards 1941, together with Imaizumi inwards 1942. Yoshiwara was elevated to metropolis condition on Apr 1, 1948. the metropolis expanded through annexation of Motoyoshiwara, Sudo, Yoshinaga, together with Harada villages inwards 1955 together with Ōbuchi inwards 1956.

Tagoura together with Iwamatsu merged amongst Fuji to cast the metropolis of Fuji on March 31, 1954. The metropolis expanded through annexation of neighboring Ukijima together with San expanse from Hara, Suntō District inwards 1956.

On Nov 1, 1966 Fuji together with Yoshiwara merged together amongst Takaoka to cast the novel metropolis of Fuji, which attained the condition of a Special City on Apr 1, 2001 amongst greater autonomy from the cardinal government.

Economy
Fuji is ane of the major industrial centers of Shizuoka Prefecture, together with the metropolis has hosted numerous newspaper factories including Nippon Paper Industries (former Daishowa Paper Industries) together with Oji Paper Company since the Meiji period. Other industries include nutrient processing, metals together with shipping equipment. Agriculture inwards the expanse is concentrated on greenish tea production together with horticulture.
